Simrad has received the
National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Innovation Award for its
cutting-edge BSM-2 Broadband Sounder.
Announced during the 70th
annual Miami International Boat Show, the NMMA innovation award honours
products that best meet the criteria of ‘innovative distinction from other
products currently being manufactured; benefit to the marine industry and/or
consumer; practicality; and cost-effectiveness.'
Awarded in the consumer
electronics category, Simrad's BSM-2 Broadband Sounder module delivers the most
detailed mid-water definition and penetrates the deepest waters on the planet
to take sonar technology to a whole new level.
Designed with serious
sportfishing anglers and dedicated commercial fisherman in mind, for use with
Simrad's NSE and NSO multifunction displays, the sonar module delivers five
times greater target resolution than comparable offshore performance sounders,
with readings possible for depths greater than 3000m (10,000ft).
The BSM-2 also provides
enhanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP), similar to the BR24 solid-state
radar, and is the first sonar to incorporate Frequency Sweeping Pulse
Compression technology – also known as ‘CHIRP' – in a recreational application;
producing higher resolution, deeper depths and less noise.
Simrad's NSE
multifunction display and NSO Offshore navigation system were also honoured
with US-based Motor Boating Magazine's 2011 Best of the Year Award.
The awards add to a long
list of accolades for Simrad over the years, with every product from its
autopilots through to Broadband Radar attracting the commendation of leading
marine organisations all over the world.
