The Offshore Superboat Championships – Australia’s ‘Formula One on water’ – is conducted by the Australian Power Boat Association (APBA) Offshore Council.

The national race series comprises several classes – Class One, Supercat Outboard, Supercat Outboard Lite and Super Vee Lite – with the Class One boats capable of speeds in excess of 220km/h!

Winners are awarded based on total laps / distance travelled, with each race course covering around eight nautical miles and each race lasting about an hour.

The spectacle of these racing machines ripping around the country’s waterways – from Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay to Sydney Harbour to tropical Queensland’s Whitsundays – is awe-inspiring.
